Having a quality high-level disinfector is extraordinarily helpful in ensuring that TEE probes are properly high-level disinfected, but few think about the cleanliness of the disinfecting unit itself. If the unit is not properly maintained, over time it may become soiled and pass bacteria onto probes, thus having the opposite effect intended. As healthcare-associated infections (HAI) are both dangerous and costly, it is important to mitigate the risk they pose in every way possible.
TEEClean Automated TEE Probe Cleaner Disinfector is the first unit of its kind to take this variable out of the equation. TEEClean offers full system high-level disinfection for added preventative maintenance. Once every three months when the unit's 5 nanometer water filter is changed, the unit walks users through a process by which the unit is completely high-level disinfected within, making it sanitary and safe for continued use.
Many believe that because the unit is used regularly to disinfect probes, it must be completely high-level disinfected itself, but this is not the case. Certain lines used for water and drainage do not come into contact with high-level disinfectant during the course of regular usage. However, when the system’s water filter is changed, it is also put through a cycle that specifically ensures that all lines throughout the entire system are high-level disinfected.
On its full-color LCD touchscreen, TEEClean provides prompts for users to prepare the system for high-level disinfection and water filter change. Then a fresh bottle of TD-5 or TD-8 is loaded into the TEEClean, is heated to 38-40°C, and is circulated through all the lines. Running the system through this process quarterly is a great step in helping to prevent the spread of HAIs.
This feature can give users and healthcare facilities more confidence that they are providing patients with the highest level of care and security. CS Medical’s TEEClean is the only TEE probe reprocessor available on the market today that provides this important feature.
